SCR Minutes
January 7, 2009
Prepared by Ken Raich
January 7, 2009
Prepared by Ken Raich
The meeting was called to order by president Ken Raich.
Attendance: Paulette Arns, Gary Franchi, Don Pfost, Dave Diaz,
Ron Dehn, Jim Robinson, Rich Hadley, Terry Cathcart, Mike Archuleta, Kerry
Roman, Ed Prosser, Linda Strange, Peggy Oreskovich, Jane McCarty, Jeff
Arnold, and Ken Raich.
Special Guests:
Trinidad Ambulance: Jane McCarty from Trinidad Ambulance asked SCR for
help with a race they intend to host on May 16. SCR informed Jane that
the club is already committed to the “Run With the Bulls”
on May 16. Jane felt their date was unchangeable because they want to
hold the race during National EMS week and have already scheduled that
weekend with other events (eg: dunk tank, tug-of-war, etc.). SCR offered
the use of two printing stopwatches if a member volunteers to deliver
and return the equipment. Jane will discuss these options with her committee
and let the club know what they decide to do. SCR Banquet Committee: Linda
Strange reported that so far 22 people have registered for the banquet
and 31 people have voted for the Youth runners (30 from the web site and
1 mail-in). Don Pfost will have the awards made by the Woodturners Club.
Due to time constraints, the club decided not to present our yearly check
to the YMCA during the banquet…this annual check will be presented
at a different time. The club voted to “comp” the banquet
registration price for the youth runners and the Banquet Committee members.
Minutes from the December meeting were approved after being amended to
specify that the banquet would have a “give-away” rather than
a raffle.
Officer Reports:
The club has over $650 more in funds than we had at this time last year.
The increase from last month was due to the Rock Canyon Half-Marathon
(which had a record turn-out). The treasurer's report was approved as
presented. Newsletter Editor - Ron Dehn announced that articles for the
February newsletter need to be in by January 15th. Membership Chair -
Don Pfost reported we currently have 122 members who have paid through
2009 (39 of these memberships are for multiple years…beyond the
end of 2009). At this time of the year, new memberships are coming in
daily. If we do not have the 200 memberships required to get the bulk
mailing discount when the February newsletter is sent, random members
who have not yet renewed will be selected to reach the 200 mailing quantity.
Webmaster - Paul LaBar announced that the SCR web site has been transitioned
to a new host. The transition went smoothly and resulted in no downtime
for the site.
Upcoming Events:
Spring Runoff: Terry Cathcart presented status for the Spring Runoff.
High-quality long-sleeved shirts will be printed in three-colors. Paulette
Stuart from the Chieftain is checking with Imprinted Sportswear to see
if we can order more shirts than we need and return the unused quantity
after the race (this would result a much closer pre-race count and fewer
shirts needing to be printed and mailed after the race). The entry fee
will be $25 during the last week before the race and $30 on race day to
encourage people to register early. Terry is scheduling a meeting with
the caretaker of Dutch Clark Stadium to see if we can use the concession
stand for race-day registration. Using the concession stand would save
over $900 in tent rental fees. Kerry Roman and Dave Diaz volunteered to
perform computer data entry for the paper registration forms. Don Pfost
volunteered to have the Woodturners Club produce 12 awards (not to exceed
$50/each). Terry will check with Paulette to confirm the date of the “packet
stuffing” party at the Chieftain.
Activity Recaps:
Rock Canyon Half-Marathon: Dave Diaz reported that he has delivered
sweatshirts to those who did not get one on race day. Dave delivered 73
shirts to the Colorado Running Company in Colorado Springs and they called
each recipient to have them pick up their shirt. This saved SCR $4.35/each
in postage. Rudolf’s Reindeer Romp: Jim Robinson reported the final
prediction race of the series was successful in spite of snowy conditions
and slick streets. 18 members completed the race in spite of the weather
conditions. Final results for the 2008 Prediction Series have been compiled
and posted on the web site. Jim is having the awards prepared and will
present them at the Banquet.
New Stuff/Old Stuff:
Race Calendar: Dave Diaz presented the current “Club Events Calendar” and Paulette Arns will submit it to RRCA with our yearly membership renewal package. It was proposed that a copy of the calendar be placed in each Spring Runoff packet. New Office Committee: Don Pfost presented nominations for the 2009 SCR Elected-Officer positions: President: Don Pfost, Vice-President: Dave Diaz, Secretary: Mike Archuleta, and Treasurer: Paulette Arns. All nominees are running unopposed. The formal announcement of 2009 officers will be made at the Banquet on January 31st. New Running Group: Ed Prosser announced he intends to start a group run on Saturday mornings at 7:00am from Reservoir Road. The club suggested he use the listserver to get the word out.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned just in time
at 9:00 P.M.
Respectfully submitted: Ken Raich
