SCR Community Service
The Southern Colorado Runners was founded in 1980 to promote running and fitness in southern Colorado. As a non-profit organization, it has not deviated from its mission.
With its available funds, the SCR conducts a number of road races that provide a racing forum for thousands of area runners. During the year, it also fosters the sport of running in the following ways:
- Using its expertise to help other groups conduct races.
- Making donations to fitness-related causes.
- Conducting two women-only races to spark women’s interest in running.
Annually SCR helps numerous non-profit and community organizations conduct races. These include the YMCA, Boys and Girls Club of America, Pueblo Chamber of Commerce, Pueblo Child Advocacy Center, Pueblo Diabetes Project, Southern Colorado Community Connections, Pueblo United Way, Micheal J. Fox Foundation, local schools and others.
The club has also made donations to the the Pueblo Nature Center, the Southern Colorado Trail Builders, the Pueblo Child Advocacy Center and other worthy recipients. It has assisted youth runners attending local and national running competitions. In addition, the club has made a multiple-year pledge to help fund the initial phase of the Puebo YMCA’s new complex at 3200 Spaulding Ave. in Pueblo, CO.
The club is a member of the Road Runner Club of America, through which it is insured.
